These classic chocolate chip cookies offer a delightful balance of sweet, buttery dough and rich, melted chocolate chips. Each cookie features a soft, chewy interior with subtly crisp, golden-brown edges, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 115g unsalted butter, softened
  • 150g granulated sugar
  • 100g light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 190g all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 170g semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 5 cm (2 inches) between each cookie.
  8. Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set but still slightly soft.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is truly softened, not melted.

Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added; this can lead to tough cookies.

Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes can help prevent spreading and deepen the flavor.

Use good quality chocolate chips for a superior taste and melt.
